There’s nothing better than a perfectly cooked vegan Cornish pasty
Golden pastry on the outside, hot savoury filling in the middle, and that fresh-from-the-oven comfort food feeling.
At The Vegan Pasty Company, we want every pasty to arrive tasting as good as it would fresh from our kitchen. Whether you have our frozen raw pasties or part-baked, a few simple tips can make all the difference and delight vegan, vegetarian, or omnivore family and friends with this British favourite.
How to Cook Part-Baked Vegan Pasties
Our part-baked pasties are ideal if you want something quicker and more convenient while still getting that fresh-baked quality.
They’ve already had an initial bake to help maintain quality during delivery.
For a shorter cook time you can defrost them in your fridge and cook from chilled, but you still have the flexibility of cooking your vegan pasties from frozen if needed.

How to Cook Frozen Raw Vegan Pasties
Our frozen raw vegan pasties are designed to be baked fresh in your oven for the best possible texture and flavour.
Step 1: Preheat Your Oven
For the best results, fully preheat your oven before cooking.
- Fan oven: 200°C
- Conventional/electric oven: 220°C
- Gas oven: Mark 7
A properly heated oven helps the pastry set and develop that delicious golden finish.
Step 2: Prepare Your Pasties
Place your frozen pasties onto:
- a lightly greased oven tray (for best results use a perforated tray), or
- a silicone oven sheet on an oven tray.
For an extra golden finish, lightly brush the vegan pastry with dairy-free milk such as oat, soy, or almond milk.
Tip for Vegan Cheese Pasties
If brushing with plant milk, gently re-prick the vent holes on top afterwards using a fork. This helps steam escape during baking and can help prevent splitting.
Step 3: Bake at High Heat First
Place the tray in the centre of the oven and bake for:
- 15 minutes at the initial high temperature
This first stage helps the pastry set leading to that perfect ctumbly pasty pastry.
Step 4: Reduce the Temperature
After 15 minutes, reduce the oven temperature to:
- Fan oven: 180°C
- Conventional/electric oven: 200°C
- Gas oven: Mark 5
Continue cooking for around 40 minutes.
Rotate the tray halfway through cooking to help the vegan pasties bake evenly.
Step 5: Check They’re Fully Cooked
Your vegan pasties should be:
- deep golden brown
- firm on the outside
- piping hot all the way through
Because ovens vary, your cook time may differ slightly.
Extra Tips for the Perfect Vegan Pasty
Don’t Overcrowd the Tray
Leaving space around each pasty allows heat to circulate properly and helps the pastry crisp evenly, which is essential when baking vegan pasties.
Use the Centre Shelf
The centre of the oven usually provides the most even cooking, ensuring your vegan pasty is perfectly baked throughout.
Never Microwave
Microwaving softens the pastry and causes it to fall apart. Oven baking gives the best texture.
Let Them Rest for a Few Minutes
Freshly baked pasties are extremely hot inside. Letting them rest for 3–5 minutes improves both texture and flavour, making them perfect for lunchboxes or picnics.
Can You Freeze Vegan Pasties?
Yes.
Once fully baked, our vegan pasties can be frozen and enjoyed within 3 months. When reheating, always ensure they are heated thoroughly before serving to maintain the perfect texture and warmth.
The Comfort Food Experience — Made Vegan
Traditional comfort food doesn’t need meat or dairy to be satisfying. A properly baked vegan pasty can be every bit as rich, hearty, warming, and indulgent as the classics — while being completely plant-based. Suitable for all, whether you are vegan, vegetarian or just interested in great tasting food.
Whether you’re enjoying one for your lunch, dinner main course, after a long walk, perfect for picnics, lunchboxes, or as part of a cosy night in, getting the bake right makes all the difference.
